I have always been a heavy reader, but being very busy during the year, juggling between the duties of a mother and of an entrepreneur, summer is when I really catch up with the books I want to read.
One thing I have learnt when I was very young is that you never stop learning: there is no such thing as “I already know everything about __________”. There is always something new or at least presented from a different angle. Summer, therefore, becomes precious time devoted to learning something new or something different.
Sometime I like re-reading a book I have already read: going through it time and again, I always discover something that escaped me the first time I read it or that I forgot about.
My reading list this summer included:
“Influence – The Psychology Of Persuasion” by Robert B. Cialdini
This is a classic book on persuasion. It explains why people say yes to what you offer and describe six important principles that will make you a skilled persuader. Whenever I read it I learn something new!
“Emotional Intelligence” by Daniel Goleman
Emotions! They play such an important role in shaping out thoughts, decision making and individual success and yet so many people only focus on the outer manifestations of them. Developing and nurturing the qualities that make up Emotional Intelligence – self-awareness, impulse control, persistence, zeal, motivation and social deafness – will enable us to build nurturing relationships and success, both personal and professional.
“Start With A Why” by Simon Sinek
A very interesting book that explains how to think strategically and what is the essence of business. I haven’t finished it yet, but I can tell you that not only it speaks to my head but also to my heart.
And now, YOUR TURN!
Which book did you read this summer and which one/s inspired you the most?
